About 10 days ago, I was reminded how it feels to continue to “walk the mile” in the shoes of someone who is extremely ill.
I had another terrible experience with my health and was unable to share with all of you until now. My husband had to take me to the emergency room with a small bowel obstruction. It came out of nowhere and blindsided us both. It had been nearly 20 years since I had been through any surgeries and obstructions. It was because of the time that had passed, that I decided to write Everything’s Okay and share it with all of you. Now, I had to relive it and be reminded about what it is like to be the patient again. This time around, it was a new hospital, new surgeon, and a new experience. Even though everything SEEMED new, it was as if “time stood still”. I was brought back to that little girl who was only 7 when the cancer appeared. I was her again; helpless, in extreme amounts of pain, and at the mercy of everyone else. Just when I thought I was the one who was strong and helping others through their ordeals, here I am having one of my own.
All good news in the end so far. Thanks to the care and nurturing I received from my newest surgeon, I did not need another surgery and I try to take good care of myself with diet and exercise. I’ve been home for a few days and I am bouncing back quicker than I thought. All I can say is thank you for your strength and the strength of my higher power.
