Being Patient

One thing I have learned from being ill as a child is patience. For some reason, it may go hand in hand with being sick or just months of being exposed to hospital beds, surgeries, tests, and such, along with the ongoing forever “waiting”. Yes, I said waiting. Waiting for results, waiting for appointments, waiting for doctors, nurses, bloodwork, waiting rooms, hospital beds…need I say more? I recently was admitted through emergency to the hospital for an 8 day stint and found myself, all those years later, back into the same pattern of “waiting”. That is when I truly discovered and came to the conclusion that I am the most patient, patient ever. If I was not so ill, I would have laughed at my discovery. So, now that I know this first hand, something I have always known, I need to share this with all of you. My advice to all of those parents who have to sit and wait, and to all of the children who have to sit and wait, may as well get use to it. It will never change and getting upset will not get you anywhere except aggrevated. Take a deep breath and just put on your waiting face. Bring something to read (maybe even my book) to occupy your time during this process, and good luck.
