Family Visits

There is nothing like family, especially when everyone is getting along. Our grandchildren are coming over to swim today and every time they are with us, I learn something new from there brave little minds. They are so funny and every visit is fun and happy. I love to do periodic family gatherings, which gives me so much pleasure to see everyone happy to see one another. Funerals and weddings are prime times to gather family, but I feel it’s true that gatherings and keeping up with everyone’s life  is the key to family unity. There are many extensions of one’s family so it is not always possible to gather everyone, but trying is the most important thing you can do. Even when I was ill, my parents got us all together with uncles, aunts and cousins on holidays so that we had a purpose in our lives. We all knew who our family was whether we stayed in touch or not. I do value the saying “you can pick your friends and not your family,” but for the most part in our situation, family is pretty tight. We do not gather often but when we do it is always enjoyable. Try it, leave your “baggage at the door,” if you have any. Reminisce about the past, remember all those fun times together. Or at least try.
