Importance of Volunteering

Sometimes people ask me why I do so much to give back. I have repeatedly heard, “haven’t you been through enough in your life to make up for all that extra giving”. Although at times I am taken aback by some of those comments, I do not get upset or angry but I do share with them my personal feelings.

For me, giving back fulfills an emotion towards people and allows me to truly understand that I was not, and still am not, the only person who had problems with my health, especially as a child. Throughout my life, I have always felt a complete sense of fulfillment by giving back. I just was able to take it a step further than most by sharing my book. Also, I feel that giving back, in any way that makes you comfortable, is how I see a way of life should be. When we are fortunate to help others we should embrace this great fortune, not waste it. There are so many people who can benefit from others just by sitting and listening, not necessarily donating money all the time. A gift of kindness goes a long way when people are going through rough times. I am blessed not only to sit and listen when I can but gifting my book to those folks is worth a million. I have witnessed this over and over.

If you have to take the time to ask me that question, then you have the time to do a deed. Take some time to think about how you can make an imapct in your community and on people who may appreciate it.
