Memories

My summers were similar to everyone else’s up until I became ill. Then, all of life as we knew it got thrown out the window. We tried to do things as a family like go to the shore, visit amusement parks, do family gatherings for outdoor activity and bbqs. The difference with our family is that at any moment we may have to leave depending on what kind of a day I was having. I was so thin and sickly, taking tremendous amounts of medications, that times were limited as well.

One particular memory was going to the Penn Dutch Fair. I really do not remember where it was but it was a few hours by car from home. Almost as soon as we arrived, I had tremendous  stomach pains and needed a bathroom immediately. I mean immediately. So, there I was running with my mother to find a place before I had an accident. I am not even sure how long we were gone, but I do remember my siblings not being very happy because that day like every other was centered around me and my needs, not theirs at all. We spent a couple hours at the fair but it turned out pretty miserable for us all. What I do want to remember is how much I embraced it all and just got through every day in hopes that the next would be better.

I encourage all of you to find the good moments, even when things aren’t going quite as you had hoped. Time is precious, even the “not so great” times. Share your favorite summer memory on my Facebook page.
