For those of you who missed my annual foundation event, all those who did attend got a chance to see a real Chemo Duck. My foundation was able to donate 150 of these wonderful creatures to CHOP from a combinations of book profits and donations when my dear friend Nancy passed. I had pictures of the stuffed animal with me and had one brought to the event to share with everyone and they just loved them.
These Chemo Ducks are gifted to oncology patients so they can better relate to the treatments they are going to experience. The duck goes through the same treatments and ailment as the patient including IV’s ports and surgery. Each duck becomes the patient’s companion and is a permanent member of the family when gifted. The ducks were created by a mother who thought of this for her child during treatment, and she chose to share this tremendous idea with others.
