Good Food and Exercise

After spending more than a week in the hospital with a bowel obstruction, I am home recovering and feeling stronger every day.

I was so very weak and tired that doing just one thing, like showering, left me with the need to lie down. On the 5th or 6th day I began to feel stronger and clearer and I wanted to do more each day. Although it is now a week at home, I have been able to accomplish more chores and do a little venturing out, within reason. I know that a big part of the recovery going so very well is the fact that I eat a very good and balanced diet on a regular basis and exercise 4-5 days a week, year round. I have always felt that balance is the key to good health and apparently that attitude is now paying off. I am almost ready to begin limited exercise (as long as it is ok with my doctors) and go back to my balanced and healthy diet. I had to remain on a very low fiber diet for a time to allow my intestines to rest and not have to work too hard. For the past couple days, I have begun to introduce new foods into that diet to make a smooth transition to my old way of eating. I now know firsthand that doing all the “right” things (or trying to at least) is a beneficial way to take care of body and mind. I look forward to getting back to MY normal very soon.
