Hummingbirds

In the summer, I sit in my kitchen and smile every single time I see one of these fascinating creatures, hummingbirds. How small and beautiful they are and how very fast their wings move in order to stay in constant flight! They rest on the feeders, which I make homemade, and drink in the sweet nectar. At times they come to the kitchen window, flutter back and forth, and I can swear that they are thanking me (or gently letting me know feeders are empty). I really believe they are doing it and it makes me smile. How amazing these little guys are, traveling here for the summer and then n September they just leave. When I looked them up to find out where they go, I found that they travel to Mexico and South America. What a long flight to find warmth and continue with life. How do they do that? Why do they do that? These questions are those that will never be answered. I let my mind wander at some of the documentaries we have watched about penguins, and bears and how far they travel to reproduce, mate, and feed. The cycle will not be broken in order for life to continue as it is. I do thank those little humming birds for visiting me every year and, in a week or so, I will have so many I will have to fill three large feeders two times a day. They love our house and everyone who visits cannot believe the crowd that gathers to eat. I love those little guys. I think they feel the same.
