We are heading to do a dinner at the Ronald McDonald House in Southern New Jersey to cook dinner with some volunteers and to gift my books to the families who are there tonight with treatments and surgeries. Some families are there to stay long term while a family member is treated for something, and others are in and out in a night or two with return treatments and procedures that do not take too long. Regardless, every night there is a hot meal waiting for them when they return from a long day at the hospital. Tonight we serve lasagna, baked chicken, salad and homemade cookies being baked there for dessert. Sounds great, huh? During the dinner, I will go around and meet the families and gift them a book so they can not only pass the time while stuck there, they can read about a fellow patient, me, as a child, going through exactly what they are so they know they are not alone. We also have some toys for the kids to gift after dinner so when we are cleaning up they can play. We never want anyone to feel left out although they travel from all over the world to come there and stay while their kids are being treated. Even if they do not speak our language, the home cooked food, gifts and our smiles lets them know, they are not alone.
