Summer Childhood Memories

Funny, while watering the flowers this early morning I was thinking of my childhood and how much I loved summer then- it was just as much as I do now. Everything about the breaking into spring followed by summer, is reflected in my thoughts today. The sound of the world coming back to life after a long winter, the smell, the change in the air, the temperatures, and of course the colors that bloom. My favorite memory of summer as a child in between all of my illnesses and hospitalizations is a good old fashioned picnic and BBQ. Again, the smells come to mind of my mother preparing potato salad, corn, melted butter, and of course, the smell of a burger and hot dog on the grill. It wakes up my senses to the tip of my brain. Sitting on a chair with my brother and sister spitting out watermelon seeds while we munched on all of our favorite foods. My most special memory is of the ice cream truck on those nights driving down the street, ringing the bell and all of us running with our loose change to get our favorite treats. Sitting out on the step watching the fireflies and eating ice cream. Those sounds and smells still trigger those memories. I do hope you all have had similar ones and that they still are with you into adulthood. Please share!
