Virtual Support Groups

There is so much out there in our cyber world. We have so much to learn and so much to give, but properly finding what fits your needs, how private or how public you want to be, is the challenge. I have discovered that there are groups you can go to, let’s say on Facebook for example, that are completely private or closed. Private groups are so secure that you can’t even search for them. This could be useful for sharing detailed information with family that you don’t want anyone to potentially see (maybe even plan a surprise party!). Closed groups are social groups that you can search for but the information is only available for those within the group to see. Most of these groups require permission/approval to join, but are often easy to join if you have that “interest”. These groups work for those of us who are looking for a “shoulder” to lean on, look for advice about a sick child, or are looking for people in similar situations. There are times you do not really want or need public opinions from everyone in the world looking at your posts, but more of an opinion from someone who has “been there” or one on one. I would compare this to attending a group meeting on whatever the subject it is you are looking into without attending in person. We share our experiences, get and give advice, and provide support in a closed setting. It may be a great way to lend an ear or find someone to listen. Good luck and let us know how you make out.
