Visiting CHOP

My friend, Nancy, who is the VP of my foundation went to Children’s Hospital yesterday for two different visits.

First part of the day we visited the team of researchers who are diligently working to help find a way to either fight HIV and AIDS or prevent it someday to make it non-existent. We all doubt that will ever happened but their work is important and the spent a good hour explaining their work and where they are headed in the research they do. Then we went for a quick tour of the hospital which is amazing in itself only to then go to the second part of our journey. That part was to speak to the stroke support group and have lunch with them. This is a monthly group that meets to talk about what their children have been through, a stroke. Yes, you heard me, a stroke. Either in vitro or after birth or sometime in their young years, all of these parents have one thing in common. Very sick children who will keep them connected forever. I was there to tell them of my experience with being very ill as a child and how I was able to cope. I was the picture of what their children will be someday with all of the medical wonders at CHOP. Here I stood, sharing with them, what their children go through, what they think, how they feel. I know that, I lived it, they wanted to hear it.

I do not have to tell you what a nice experience it was to share with them all of those things. I have walked a mile in each of their child’s shoes. They loved hearing what I had to share and I loved sharing my memories with them. I want to do more, and if you can help me reach that goal in some way, please email me. Sick children’s experiences, I can speak for them.
