Winter’s Fury

We are a little over half through the winter season, and boy it has been a busy one. I think we have spent 50% of our time watching the weather forecasts and the other 50% at home waiting for the storm to arrive, shoveling, or cleaning up from it. Even though we’ve had one storm on top of another, I consider us folks in southern NJ as one of the luckier areas this season. We did not get to escape many of the storms, but for this year rain has been our friend. Ice has been something we have grown accustomed to seeing and salt is on the shopping list weekly. How do I personally deal with it all? I take it in stride. I make certain we always have enough eggs, milk, and supplies, so that I do not have to fight the crowds before each forecast. I have learned to become flexible, something I mastered when I became ill as a child and have used throughout my lifetime. Patience goes along with it. I also make certain to keep myself busy with cooking, projects, or catching up on my favorite television shows. From Hurricane Sandy, I learned my biggest positive asset is patience, after being displaced from my home for four months. I remember there is always someone less fortunate, and that is enough to keep me content. Do I get upset? Of course I do, but it is short lived.
