Appreciate Your Nurse

Let us take a moment to let our nurses know how we feel about them.  It can be a simple thank you card, a box of candy, flowers or even something handmade, but it is worth taking the time to say thanks.

I was a patient often at CHOP, with as many surgeries and weeks in the hospital as I can remember.  I personally remember making the nurses cards when I felt up to it, with my mother gifting them large boxes of candy and donuts so everyone could share.  My favorites of the bunch were given small bottles of perfume from my parents at my request and when I handed them their gifts, I knew that they truly cared about their jobs in that moment. Each one was special to me, going out of their way daily for weeks at a time to make sure I was comfy, clean, and well cared for.  It did not end just with me though; there were many of us hospitalized for so very long and we all felt the same way. Nightingales in disguise is what we called them.

I recently was in the hospital and felt the same way I remember as a child.  My nurses, although extremely busy with patients even more ill than me, were still there when I needed them within a few minutes of my call.  I was very fortunate to have such good care, and I appreciatednurse with children their hard work and dedication.
